Tyler Haney considered herself an outdoorsy, sports lover for as long as she could remember. However, when the time came to head off to college, she decided to try something different. Haney attended the Parsons School of Design – this is where her business idea came to fruition. In 2013, she launched Outdoor Voices, which is an athleisure clothing line. She wanted to “create a fabric that functions across multiple activities,” while also wanting it to look more like day-to-day clothing. Her brand is booming – she’s now an incredibly successful entrepreneur, and she achieved all of this before turning 30.

Although Audrey Gelman had established a successful career in politics, she felt drawn in a different direction. In 2016 she and her friend, Lauren Kassan, launched The Wing, which is a women’s only organization. They focus is on providing a collaborative space to work, learn, socialize, and seek shelter from daily chaos. There’s a long waiting list for membership, but they’re constantly working on expanding locations, so every woman can have the support system they deserve.

Payal Kadakia Pujji’s life had been everything she had hoped for, but she wasn’t as happy as she thought she should be. However, there was one thing that brought her constant joy – her nightly dance classes. So, she quit her 9 to 5 job and decided to start a company with her friend from high school. The first try was Open Table, which was a search engine for exercise classes- but the idea flopped. The second product let users buy 10 classes in advance – again, the idea flopped. Finally, in 2014, the company rebranded itself into ClassPass – a subscription service that lets customers go to a set number of classes each month for a recurring fee. ClassPass is now valued at $400 million.

  1. Lori Cheek

Architect turned entrepreneur, Lori Cheek is the founder and CEO of Cheekd, a mobile dating app. After deciding to call it quits on building structures she decided to give building relationships a go. She knew that the idea of swiping left and right in hopes to find “the love of your life” was not the most realistic or healthy way to go about dating. Wanting to “live to work and create a lifestyle instead of a ‘job’,” Cheek decided to create Cheekd. The app pushes users to engage in a social setting with the matches in their area – if you notice someone you like in the nearby, the app urges you to talk face-to-face.

All of these women have battled with the idea of whether or not they should pursue their unique business plans. However, no matter the setbacks, their passion for the project pushed them toward success – and you can do the same!
