Some may say that was risky on Liza’s part to walk away from a stable career that had high income earning potential and a certain prestige. But she did so, and 20 years later still has no regrets.

After starting her PR career working in film and television with the best in the industry, Liza branched out on her own 12 years ago to start her own entertainment and celebrity PR agency, Anderson Group Public Relations. And today she serves some of the top names in the industry and has set up offices in both Los Angeles and New York City.

The secret to Liza’s success is in loving what you do. In the early years Liza waited until she felt ready to start her own PR firm and never had the desire to do so until she felt ready. It wasn’t smooth sailing, right from the beginning, but she stayed resilient. She learned that nobody could teach you to be a good boss and understood over time that being a strong and giving leader is what her team appreciated.

Liza leaves the following tips and advice for business owners who are looking for ways to improve on their skills:

1.    It’s important to show up every day and give your all

Naturally there will be days when you may be less energetic than others, but ensure those days are few and far between as it is essential to show up to work every day with enthusiasm for the day and for your clients. Draw on the energy that you get from serving and helping others and enjoy what you do. Happiness is in doing what you like.

2.    Be consistent in the way you show up for others

Make sure you are consistently out there meeting new people. People need to know who you are, and you will attract others based on what you are good at.

3.    Bring new ideas to the table

Teams that are filled with diversity bring new ideas to the table, so be open to suggestions and take them into consideration.

4.    Have an acute understanding of the financial part of your business

When you understand how your organization and the financial management of the organization, this allows you to make confident business decisions that will impact the profitability of your business.

The bottom line is when you are a business owner there are many moving parts that make your business successful. The riches are in knowing how your decisions affect your bottom line and making smart decisions for your business. If you are operating your business without understanding your business numbers, you are putting your business at financial risk.
