Key Reasons Why you Need a PR Department and PR Support in your a Business (and How Avoiding This Can Potentially Cost you Tens of Thousands of Pounds or Dollars) — Queen Chioma

Does this sound like you? You are a small business owner but you have no PR department in your business, If so…this is a 10K-100K mistake to make as a small business owner,

Especially as some companies/celebrities have even suffered by losing millions because due to a PR/Social Media Crisis.

Many of you have been treating your business as if it’s a hobby and as if you are just a solopreneur…thinking that a crisis/bad publicity can not catch up with your company at some given moment.

There are two types of people that can dramatically save you from a crisis/help you minimise the risks or the damage:

– PR Professionals,

– Lawyers.

Many of you know this, but for some reason you have never got the PR support that your company needs and it’s one of the most important departments in all of the big brands and of course you know how much Celebrities rely on PR professionals and Publicists to manage their careers/keep them in the media in a POSITIVE LIGHT!

It’s your job to hire PR Consultants/PR Professionals to come in and take a look at your BIZ every now and then or you will get into crisis that could either significantly affect your business or even take it down.

Classic examples of a Crisis:

– This current pandemic,

– Negative reviews,

– employment issues,

– Legal issues,

– Contract issues,

– Customer Complaints,

– Bad publicity/Bad press,

– Poor risk assessment

– Event management issues,

– Cash flow issues,

Let’s look at some companies/brands that have been affected by a crisis:

– H&M their inappropriate advert about a young black boy that led to bad publicity, loss of sales and loss of Celebrity endorsements,

– Rob Kardashian’s ONE post on Instagram caused Instagram to shut down his account, opened up a court case that was all over the news,

– MySpace, their softwares/interfaces weren’t built with longevity in mind, they failed to be able to keep up with the times and eventually ended up becoming one of the most forgotten Social Media platforms when they were at the TOP in early-end of the 2000’s with over 100 million users a month.

I once cried when I watched the documentary of how MySpace‘s brand went down!

One of my jobs as a PR person is to help you MINIMISE bad publicity, minimise a crisis and also help you with damage control before things get out of hand.

I see the glass a half FULL and half empty…

Why? Because I am a very realistic person (YESS I’m an optimistic person and full of joy most of the time) but I try to see things clearly…and I also work in PR!!
I am fully aware that:

– There is good publicity,
– There is bad publicity,

No business has been able to escape bad publicity no matter HOW perfect it is, No matter how good you are,

No matter how kind and wonderful you are to your clients/customers/team etc Errors and mistakes will happen and some can affect your brand, reputation and your image.

But there is HOPE, HELP AND SUPPORT out there….so do not despair…

I would hate for you to think that PR is just about being in the media, that’s the beautiful side of it (it’s usually 90% good to be in the media and 10% bad) even Kris Jenner agrees with me as she has said this on TV too.

So I’d be more than thrilled to help you get your PR house in order or give you some quality ideas and focus areas to work on for major levels of publicity and higher levels of brand protection.
