Open letter to all my mamas + future mamas — Kate Crocco

To my current mamas: I see your heart and I see the deep longing you have to be with your babies and also the deep longing to do something more. Your day consists of inner dialogue (and even outer at times) of “someone help me, someone give me a break, no I want my baby back, I don’t need a break”. You feel stressed and exhausted and wonder how anything will ever get done. You can’t wait for your babies to go to bed so you can go and do the things. Then an hour later you find yourself too mentally exhausted to get one thing done on your to-do list, wishing you could wake your babies and just snuggle them in your arms.

To all my lady bosses: You wonder if this will ever get easier. You feel like everything you’ve ever wanted is on hold and maybe never attainable. I see you and I want you to know it won’t be like this forever. I’ve obviously experienced all of this before and why I get and feel it so deeply

To those who are currently struggling, just know, like anything in life, it doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger. It’s about flipping those negative mindsets from “I can’t do this, it’s impossible” to “this is hard AND I can get through it”.

To my future mamas: Before having babies I never thought I could have both—the baby and the business. I’ve talked about this many times before. It was my biggest fear. It kept me paralyzed at times. But I reminded myself, I’ve gotten through hard things in the past and survived, so I can choose to get through this too. I can learn how to open my hands and accept double the blessing, the business and the baby.

Mama, you may be wondering how you will ever get back to work today. Or you may be considering babies and wondering how you’ll handle it all. My answer for you is YOU CAN. You are capable of anything. If you want it badly enough, you will make it work.

Women have super powers. We not only have skills and drive, but we have intense emotions. And we can chose to let these emotions keep us small or propel us forward into the unknown to become the very best versions of ourselves.

You CAN do this.

It just dawned on me that I went from being completely afraid to have babies in 2016 to having baby #1 in 2017 alongside business + birthing a book proposal. To having baby #2 in 2018 alongside business, publishing contract, and writing the book.

This was CHOICE.

So many times I wanted to stay small and tell myself “I can’t do this” because it felt safe. But mamahood does something to you. It accelerates emotions and drive. And I CHOSE to allow it to accelerate my fears onto a positive and productive journey.

Not sure if any of this makes sense, but bottom line is, if you are a mama with dreams or are a woman with dreams to become a mama, you CAN do mamahood alongside a business.

To the ladies with businesses looking to become mamas: You’re going to need to get creative and learn flexibility. Business will never look the same AND you will be forever grateful it will never be the same. I used to rate my worth in hours poured into my business. And thank God I no longer do this because going from 70 hour work weeks to 15 are the new reality. I’ve learned to only work smarter and not harder- bringing in more income than ever before. Surround yourselves with other women who have done it before you. Be open to taking suggestions. Set massive boundaries with friends, family, and colleagues. Learn to say no more than you say yes.

To the mamas looking to start a business: You have an advantage because you already know how to do a lot with little. You can get 70 hours of work completed in 15. You have a drive to provide for your littles that will also accelerate your success. You’re no nonsense and all boundaries. And because of this, you CAN start that business.

Mamas and future mamas I see you. I’m standing next to you and rallying for you. We are in this together. Remember, what you tell yourself is what will be.

So what will you tell yourself today? You’re capable of doing both?
