Born Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon on March 22, 1976, the young actress was a prodigy. By the age of 14, Witherspoon landed the lead role in her first feature film, The Man in the Moon. The talented young actress then went on to act in three other Hollywood films – A Far Off Place, Jack the Bear, and S.F.W. – all before graduating high school. After high school, Witherspoon considered dropping her acting career to become a doctor or nurse like her parents. However, after winning the Catalonian International Film Festival award for best actress for her part in the 1996 film Freeway, she took a hiatus from her studies to focus on acting.

Quickly rising through the acting ranks, Witherspoon established herself in such films as Pleasantville, Election, and Cruel Intentions. A few years after having her daughter, Witherspoon’s success skyrocketed with the release of Legally Blonde in 2001. The film was a major hit, and the first production by Witherspoon’s young company, Type A Films. Corresponding with the birth of her second child in 2003, the second Legally Blonde movie led to even more great opportunities that helped the star fund the growth of her production company.

Although, she founded Type A Films in 2000, Witherspoon’s success from the Legally Blonde franchise helped the company expand and acquire more recognition in the industry. While she grew her company, Witherspoon stared in several more films, including Vanity Fair in 2004, Penelope in 2006, and How Do You Know? in 2010.

In 2012, Witherspoon welcomed the birth of her third child and kicked her career back into high gear. She kept herself busy promoting her newest films – This Means War and Mud – while balancing the needs of her children. Witherspoon also used this time to serve on the board of the Children’s Defense Fund and promote her longtime support for Save the Children.

In May 2015, Witherspoon launched her retail brand, Draper James. The lifestyle brand focuses on fashion and home décor inspired by the American south. Named after Witherspoon’s grandparents, Draper James opened its first store in the actress’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. Witherspoon soon began pursuing various television ventures, including Big Little Lies in 2016 and the talk show Shine On with Reese in 2018. In pursuit of these ventures she has remained a successful and devoted actress, philanthropist, entrepreneur, wife, and mother.
