1. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

I’ve always been passionate about the travel industry and tremendously excited by the growth opportunities in the tour and hospitality space. There are many exciting trends to tap into, from the rise of experiential travel to new virtual reality technologies to the fact that more and more women are traveling and playing a key role in travel decision-making. But I hadn’t always pictured myself as an entrepreneur, until I began speaking with my now co-founder about the potential of the tour and activity space.

Over countless discussions with my co-founder it became very clear that not only was the opportunity tremendous, but that we were actually pretty well-equipped to take advantage of that opportunity. My experience in sales and marketing coupled with his years of experience in hospitality consulting made us a dynamic duo. And it’s been an absolute blast to build PlacePass with him.

2. What entrepreneur do you look up to most and why?

Though she may not be an entrepreneur in the most traditional sense of the word, Diana Carlson (chairman of Carlson Companies) is one of the most inspiring women in the travel and hospitality industry. I have learned a great deal from her leadership and am constantly impressed by her efforts to evolve the brand and better cater to different market segments, such as millennials. With her entrepreneurial approach to management she has done a tremendous amount to help Carlson embrace innovation, most recently with the launch of the Radisson Red hotel brand.

3. What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur?

The travel and hospitality space is very competitive, so we’ve had to work hard to differentiate PlacePass and will continue to do so. I’m very proud of the decisions we’ve made to help the brand stand out, including our distribution partnerships, our fun and engaging user experience, and our experiments with cutting-edge technologies such as virtual travel experiences.

4. What advice would you give to a woman looking to start or grow her own business?

As an entrepreneur you will rely constantly on your network – for strategic advice, for help spreading the word about your company, for personal support and encouragement, and more. Make sure you take the time to cultivate and maintain quality relationships, because they are essential to your success. At PlacePass we take pride in being a good member of the travel ecosystem and work hard to build relationships with everyone we work with in the hospitality industry.

5. What do you do and where can people find you?

We connect travellers with a quality network of tour and activity operators, enabling people to find and book amazing local experiences in more than 180 destinations.
