11 Honoré Launches A New Initiative With BIPOC Designers

Today plus-size luxury company 11 Honoré launches a new initiative with BIPOC brands LaQuan Smith and Greta Constantine. 11 Honoré Design Director, Danielle Williams Eke, says she sees 11 Honoré as a platform to help fellow established BIPOC designers launch into extending sizing. Both of the guest brands collaborated with Williams Eke for several months on sizing.

“As Design Director for 11 Honoré not only is it my responsibility to design for plus-size women, who are often ignored in this industry, but as a Black Designer it is important that I am a part of ushering other Black Designers into the plus space,” says Williams Eke. “Black designers and creatives have been overlooked and underrepresented in the fashion industry for far too long. Needless to say this initiative is very close to my heart.” Williams Eke acted as both the fit model and the editorial model for this iteration of the initiative.

Greta Constantine designer, Kirk Pickersgill, says that his journey into extended sizing began with an experience he had with a customer. “(She) shared that the only time she felt bad about herself was when she walked into the fitting room. To me, that is a problem. The initiative with 11 Honoré is rooted in our belief that garments must empower, excite, and inspire. Regardless of where you live, the color of your skin, or the number that is sewn into your favorite dress, dressing up is a celebration of what makes you you.”

Designer LaQuan Smith said, “When starting my brand, my dream was to dress women of all shapes, sizes and ages and allow them to experience the forward sexiness that encompasses the world of LaQuan Smith. This partnership has pushed me forward in this space of inclusion and I look forward to seeing my clothes on everyone in the near future.”

11 Honoré says it wants to continue working with brands and designers that need and want guidance in launching extended sizing collections. The ongoing initiative will include new designers launching every two to three months. A new collaboration with Romeo Hunte will be out next.
