11 SEO Tips for Natural Wellness Brands to Rank Better

People don’t just want to live; they want to feel exceptional while doing so. That’s why you need to perfect your website’s natural wellness SEO, so people can find your life-changing products and services.

Health and Wellness is one of the Most Competitive Industries for SEO

Nearly 80% of people say wellness is important to them, according to the 2020 Ogilvy Wellness Gap study. The same percentage of people want to embrace better wellness practices. People’s focus on wellness is increasing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers say.

This increased focus on all things well-being is great for businesses in the $4.5 trillion global wellness economy. But, with more demand, comes more competition, which means natural wellness brands have to work harder to get noticed.

How to Improve Your Natural Wellness SEO

For natural wellness companies, SEO isn’t an option. You need to work on your health and wellness brand’s SEO to improve organic rankings, get more customers, and fulfill your mission to help people lead better lives. Here’s how.

1. Do Regular SEO Audits

Perform an SEO audit once or twice a year to make sure you’re following best practices and getting the most out of your natural wellness SEO efforts. The audit will help spark content ideas, identify technical website issues, and provide competitive research, keyword research, and site speed information.

If you aren’t sure how to do an SEO audit, you can use an SEO agency like Witty Kitty to perform the audit and address site concerns.

2. Use Consistent URL Structure

URL structure matters when it comes to wellness brand SEO and just SEO in general. Keep URLs short and consistent, using dashes between words and incorporating keywords. While you can use numbers in your URLs, avoid using dates, which may cause problems later when you update posts.

3. Publish SEO Keyword-Rich Content Regularly

Publish SEO blog posts at least once a month, using a variety of natural wellness SEO keywords. Aim for these posts to be 800–1,200 informative words, keeping readers on your site and improving SEO. Don’t forget to cross-promote your content for traffic and referrals, which also improves SEO.

4. Write Longer Posts

As mentioned above, time on site matters in SEO rankings. Keep readers from exiting your site quickly by providing relevant, informative, long-form content, which is content that’s 2,000 words or more. Notice we didn’t say to keep readers from exiting your site just be writing longer? That won’t work. If your content isn’t helpful and well-written, you’ll lose readers even faster.

The idea is that longer content provides full answers people are looking for. Make it scannable with proper formatting. Break it up with photos and videos. Most importantly, make it relevant and educational!

5. Use headers

Keyword-rich headers—H2s and H3s—not only make your writing more scannable and easy for readers to consume, but they also improve SEO rankings. Make sure headers are easily understood and contain your natural wellness brand keywords every time it’s possible.

6. Refresh old content

Search engines put the newest, most updated content at the top of search rankings. Have a regular process for updating content at least annually, adding new information and stats. You can refresh the publish date, but you need to include an editor’s note saying when the original article was published and when you updated it. Not sure where to start? Consider updating your most popular content first. Look to your Google Analytics and Search Console insights to determine which posts should get priority.

7. Don’t be a copycat

We’re surprised we still have to talk about this, but plagiarizing content is never ok. Never take someone else’s work and present it as your own. It will ruin your credibility and put you in a world of hurt with SEO implications.

You can’t duplicate content from your own website either without hurting your SEO. Even if you’re writing about the same topic and using the same or similar keywords, you need to repurpose and rephrase your content to make it original. Product descriptions, we’re looking at you here! A lot of businesses think it’s okay to copy and paste product descriptions on multiple SKUs. It’s not. They all need to be unique for optimal SEO.

8. Identify content buckets

Content buckets or content categories are topics that speak to different aspects of your business/practice and demographics. When you write about topics in clusters, linking between posts, you help your site’s SEO ranking by keeping readers on your site and encouraging them to visit multiple posts while they’re there.

9. Post new links

Whether you’re updating content or adding new content to your site, carefully consider what you link to. Updating content? Make sure the external and internal links still work and add any new links that will help the piece. Posting new content? Consider whether there are posts already on your site that would benefit from linking to the new content. Add those internal links as soon as you hit publish on the new piece. Also, make sure you open in a new tab for any links that take guests off of your website.

10. Install SEO plug-ins

We get it if just the letters SEO freak you out. It can seem like a mysterious concept. SEO plug-ins eliminate some of the mystery by allowing you to fill in blanks and giving you SEO ratings before you post. If you have a WordPress website, we recommend Yoast. It’s super user-friendly and uses color-coding to tell you how to optimize your SEO as you go.

11. Optimize title tags

Title tags are the first thing search engines consider when ranking your content, so it’s super important to update them. Don’t use duplicate tags and be sure to keep them short. If you do an SEO audit with us, we include this service during implementation.
