If you’re not creating pins that lead to your own site, then you’re not helping those beautiful dream clients find you. In fact, you’re just sending them somewhere else! So make sure that you’re creating pins that lead people to your own blog or website. 

2. You don’t utilize SEO.

Pinterest has its own unique SEO (aka Search Engine Optimization), but you can compare it to Google for this example. 

Say someone is looking for a “pumpkin spice tiramisu recipe”. Hey, wait a minute, you say – that’s ME! I make pumpkin spice tiramisu! Come check out my blog!

Even if you have plenty of good content and recipes on your website…

Even if you have proper key phrases throughout that make it known that you’re a baker extraordinaire who makes an amazing pumpkin spice tiramisu…

Do you really think your dream client will find your recipe if you’ve pinned it with the description “Yummy Get in My Tummy”?! 

(Answer: they most likely will not find your recipe). 

When pinning to Pinterest, you have to think like someone using a Google search bar. What are they actually going to type in to find what they’re looking for? You can also do keyword research ahead of time to find some commonly searched phrases and their synonyms. 

This next point builds off of the lack of using SEO.

3. You don’t rank in your search terms.

It’s important for your Pinterest account to be cohesive and make sense for the product or service you’re offering. Having proper SEO and descriptions for your Pins is part of it, but your account as a whole needs to be on brand. 

Your account name, bio, website link, and board names should all make sense for what your business and brand entails. Your board names and descriptions within those boards should also be consistent.
