5 Steps to Research and Validate a Membership Site or Ecourse Idea

Hi guys.
Natalie Terranea here from new software Marketing.
And let me just make sure that I am actually on the right page here.
So today we are back with our weekly life.
Onda,

I’m excited to share with you today.
Five steps Thio research and validate your membership side or equals idea before you dive in and start spending too much time and money on something.
We don’t know if it’s gonna make you any money And if there is any interest.

Okay, so let me just share this quickly in my group because I always forget to do that.
So I’m just going to share in a group.
I’m gonna get started the membership experiment.
Here we go.

Way about research.
Young gravitation, Remember? Remember she cycle E.
Here we go.
Awesome.
Alright, so let’s get started.
So if you have any questions,

I suppose then in the comments, I don’t always see them.
But if I do, I’ll reply life.
Otherwise, I will reply after the after the show.
You know when, uh when I when the recording is available.
So Okay,

what are those steps to research and basically validate your membership.
That idea.
So the first thing is you have to brainstorm ideas.
Um So taking a piece of paper and then writing down what expect is that you have that you think could you could share with others.
Also,

what motivates you? What do you really enjoy doing and what you confidently can create content about on a regular basis? And that’s really important because there could be topics where you are.
Actually,

you’re excited and enjoying the subject, but you might find that you will be struggling coming up with copy and calm a tent in a consistent way.
And I’m just not just talking about for your membership site or your horse, but also for all your free content so that your media your block post maybe if you’re going thio guess post as well if you’re going to be interviewed in podcast,

right.
So you need to make sure that you’re confident coming up with new content on a regular basis.
Uh, you know, in the long run, so that’s that’s really, really important.

So it needs to be a sore topic that you’re excited about and that you know you won’t run out of things to say, basically right, so is to share your own stories, stories of your clients and things like that.

You also want to write down.
What problem can you solve? What type of problems you feel.
You have the expertise to solve what people you want, what people want to learn, that you can teach them.

Okay, Will people pay for your expertise? Do you have a feeling that this is something that people will be willing to pay for? So the stronger the pain and the hardest, you know,

it is to find a solution to a problem, the more likely people will be willing to pay for it.
Right? So how do you think people value that? Authorities At this point, it’s really not about doing research,

but just writing down how you feel about those ideas, right? The next step, once you’re going storms several ideas off you.
Did you have a civilized? Yes, but if you just have one that’s okay too, then you want to conduct some research,

right? So you want to find out on that topic? What people are asking, find out where they are coming out.
So I know like this is the external, you know, question off ways of ways.
Your avatar,

where do they hang out? But the reality is that you need to know that, right? If you don’t know that, you can’t guess right, So you have to absolutely find out where they are ending out.
There are social media.

What platform are their own? It’s not because you’re comfortable with one platform that this is necessarily the platform that they’re using our their own.
Facebook are their own Twitter.

It’s movie to be on their own, linked in our their own instagram.
So you want to find out where they are, and you want to start joining this community and started listening and participating in conversations.
You also want to survey your audience.

So if you already have a list, even if you’re not sure if it’s an exact match, chances are, you know, unless you’re switching to a totally different topic, Um,

there will be some of the lap and there will be some type off match.
So you want to serve a these people and ask them what kind off help, Uh, you know, they need that you could provide, Ofcourse,

ofcourse, if you have released, but you never communicate with them.
You’re not going to get a lot of responses, right? Let’s behind us.
If you know, if you haven’t talked to them in months, um,

you know, why would they? And saw your email.
Why would they even open the email? But there is no better time that than now to start communicating and re engaging with these people.
Especially very clear goal for this communication,

which is to figure out if there is an interest.
Okay, so once you’ve done that little bit of research, you want to score your ideas, right? And obviously you have several off them.
Uh,

they can be related, but the idea is to go to mix the brainstorming idea that you had and the research results that you came up with and to look at and to try to put them in in buckets? Yes.

Is that something that you’re going to be passionate about? Is that something that you are good at? So it’s not because you build your own website that you’re gonna be able to teach people out to build a website.
Okay,

let’s be honest.
You need to have some type off expertise, right? And is that something that your audience is willing to pay for right and that can come from your list or that can come from these other audience, right that you’ve been hanging off it.

So once you have that, then you can score your ideas and find out if there is one idea that much.
Is those three criteria something you’re passionate about, Something you’re good at and elegance is willing to pay for it.

Okay, what? You have that and then you can go going to step for, which is basically to validate your idea with what we call a minimum viable product.
Um, and before we dive into ways to validate, decided there was a product and the different kind off products that you can create,

I want to share with your three mistakes that people make you know.
At that stage, one is asking for their family and family members and their friends if it’s a good idea or not.
So they are absolutely the wrong people to ask because they are not only emotionally invested because they want you to succeed,

so they want to support you.
But they’re also probably not your target, so they are not the right people.
Thio, basically, you know, give you advice on that and number two eyes to try Thio, compare yourself with people that are already delivering something similar to what you’re doing and when there is competition.

Actually, it’s a good thing that that they have already validated the idea, Andi, that they can, you know, hopefully they are able to monetize it so that it is potentially a good idea.
Okay,

so competition is actually a good thing now.
It doesn’t mean that you have to copy and you should not.
But it’s an indication that there is the need.
And then it’s your job to make you offer unique and make sure it stands out from the competition.
Right?

That mystic number stree is to trust your guts.
Like if you have, like, a feeling that right you want you don’t want to be too emotionally involved with the idea.
And if you have a feeling that this might not work,

you know, just trust your judgment and onto another idea.
It really needs to be an idea that excites you.
That will you really feel like you could help people for free right off course.
You won’t make money out of this business.

But the idea is that you would be willing to do it for free if you know you didn’t need right to to make the money.
Okay, so how do you validate that idea with a minimum viable product? What The goal is to find out if it’s a good fit for you,

and if it’s financially smart for you to get on that idea.
So one of the things that you can do is to survey the audience again.
If you have one, ask them if that’s something that they would be interested in, and that’s something that they would be willing to pay for.

So, Vida, we open.
You know, I’m thinking about doing so and so and I’m thinking like this would be like in the form, of course or membership site.
Is that something that would pay for it that existed? If I want to come up with that service that cause or that,

you know, subscription? Is that something that you would sign up for? Right? Step number two is you can look at in principles that already have that same audience right on.
Look at what they are doing okay.

It’s going to help you validate the idea and see if you know if other people are actually charging for this and the restrictions that you know there was a chance that this is a good idea.
Number three,

uh, what are the communities that already entities that help your market right? Those are going to be paid.
Some are going to be free.
You should join them and see what’s going on inside.
You know what kind of questions to for asking and things like that.

So looking into communities that already exist that I’ve already been established for that market is really going to help you gauge if that idea will be right or not, because you’re going to see the type of problems that there and I stumble before it is to release a pilot program or beta program.

So it’s really, to me the best way to that idea without spending too much time or money, so it should be quick to implement.
It should be minimal work and budget up front, and so that you can really have some return on DSM feedback right away.

If that’s something that you should first you or not.
Or if that’s something you should be looking at.
Another idea.
Okay, so it’s really going alone to gauge interest.
And see,

that’s something that you can actually see yourself do in the long run.
Okay, so you have actually different kinds off minimum viable products.
You have the ones that measure interest, and those are the easiest one to set up.

So they are like your typical freebie.
Like magnets are waiting list.
Right.
So on your on your list, if you have a list today off contact, then you should definitely see them and ask them to join the waiting list if you are interested.
Right.

So that’s already, you know, gauging interest on that.
You can also create a free Facebook group.
You invite everybody that signs up to your freebie to that group, and then you start sharing,

um, answering questions and then sharing content for free.
And Steve there is in there.
You can also membership beta program now.
So in that case, basically you test the idea, but also the financial potential,

right? So if you want to plan to build a membership site, for example, off course, you in your during your beta.
You probably don’t want all the bells and whistles, but you want the minimum viable piece of content that is going to be enough for people to want to join and get some type of result.

So, depending on how your membership site is going to be structure, that could be a piece of content that sold the specific problem problem like like a mini calls, for example.

And you could stop by just selling that and see if people right.
If people write this, then that means that there is definitely interesting.
You should keep going and investigate this further.
If you hear creaking kissed,

then that’s a sign that this is not such a good idea.
If you want to build a new equals an online course, then building a better program and even pre selling the course is also a good option.
It has its pros and cons,

but you could totally prison cell an online course, a za way to see if people would be interested.
So the pros off that is that you make the money a product, right,

so you get the money and then you spend the time building the course, This is actually something that I have done.
Where I have built the course.
Uh, it was a weekly because that was stripped and I built the course but built week by week based on the previous feedback.
So that allowed me to really be able to be fine the modules based on what people are telling me.

So I was able to, uh, implement, you know, feedbacks right away even before I had pulled the course.
So of course, the the cons off that is that now that you saw something and you don’t have it, you have this pressure right to deliver on time.

And if the technical aspect, for example, is an issue, then you might put yourself yourself a lot of stress.
You know, for that because you don’t exactly know how long it’s going to take to build.
You don’t know what’s going to do.

It was going to be able to help you in the time and that you have okay.
And you also need to be good at something stuff that you don’t already have.
Okay, so definitely not for everybody to present,

but it’s a good option.
Thio make the money before you actually give you so you don’t waste money.
Uh, too much time and money on something that is not going to start, okay.

And understand, Number five is to basically build that audience.
So not that you validated at M v.
P at any more viable product.
Whether you don’t, I mean, because you’ve done a beta launch or pilot program for your membership.
Now is the time to really build that audience.

You know, you have a good idea.
You’re looking people are interested and willing to pay for it.
And now you can really start building that audience with, uh, you know,

after people with free content again here, a free Facebook group is a great way Teoh be able to survey people.
So you, if you want to give people information and then yourself them to find out, where are their pain points?

And that’s where, um, you going to get the type of content that you could be putting in your membership? Okay, so that’s basically five steps that you can go through to research and validate your membership.
Good idea or your equals idea before you dive in and spend too much time and money implement Get I hope you enjoy participate training.
