Last week, I had a conversation with Mark Schaefer for our Thought Readers community about marketing. Mark wrote the book Marketing Rebellion, for which the tagline is āthe most human company wins.ā
Our entire discussion, which will be released on my new podcast, was around ways to create more human impressions instead of tricks and clicks. It centred on how to treat people well and avoid marketing gimmicks that none of us like.
One thing Mark said that really stood out for me was, āI wonāt let you down.ā
He said this about his commitment to blogging every week. He approaches his weekly blog as a way to teach, serve and help others. His enthusiasm for doing this was so apparent that I felt like someone had smacked me.
Iāve been blogging for over a decade now, and sometimes, I feel like Iāve run out of good things to say. My conversation with Mark renewed my enthusiasm for creating value and earning the right to be listened to by being both excellent and consistent.
How to Create Consistent Content thatās Excellent

Have you told yourself that no one reads what you write and it doesnāt matter if you skip a week (or two or three)? I have been there, and these are a few things Iāve learned that can help you re-commit to consistent creation:
1. Capture the idea the minute it strikes
Prolific creators are always looking for the lesson, story or metaphor that they can share with someone else. They take notes when an idea hits ā they dance with the Idea Fairy and bring that idea to life the very moment inspiration strikes. They donāt wait until a scheduled block of time arrives for writing ā they are writing notes, snippets and ideas that they can further develop all the time.
2. Pay attention to questions
Fine-tune your mind to pay attention to, and document the questions people ask you on a regular basis. Chances are, you hear the same questions repeatedly and youāre missing an opportunity to write about them. There may even be questions no one has asked you before. When you hear a new question, write it down, too. Questions are powerful content creation springboards. After all, itās natural for people to type their questions into Google to seek out the answer. Why not make your content serve that purpose?
3. Tell stores
Kindra Hall wrote the book Stories That Stick, itās a powerful book about storytelling and how to incorporate stories into your marketing, messaging and the content you create. When you tell stories, people want to hear more. Be sure to capture humorous and helpful stories in your list of ideas for content creation, too.
4. Be of service
Do you like to teach? I do, and when I shift my mind from āblog creationā to teaching someone how to do or think about something, suddenly it becomes a lot easier for me to create. Ask yourself what the most important thing someone new to your world needs to learn is. Write about those things and teach people through the content you create.

5. Hire help
If you are depending on yourself to write, edit, publish and mail, you might feel overwhelmed when it comes to getting it all done. Instead, create a system where someone else helps you with the heavy-lifting to make it easier for you to create. If you get too caught up in the mechanics of all the steps that go into creating and shipping, itās possible for you to lose your creative spark. Let someone else take care of those details for you.
