6 Routines to Set up for 2021 That Will Change Your Life — erin may henry

Routine 1: A Morning Routine

I am not saying that you need to wake up at 5:00 AM.

I’m not saying that you need to meditate and do all of these different things.

Don’t do anything that you don’t enjoy. That is my philosophy on life.

But what I am saying is know how to set yourself up at the beginning of the day. When you are super intentional about the way that you wake up and those first few activities that you do, you really can set yourself up for success. You can set yourself up to turn a bad mood into a good one, or to turn a lazy day into a productive one.

What I would suggest you do is spend the first few weeks of the new year experimenting. Experimenting with a few different options of things that you can include within your morning routine that are going to set you up for the rest of the day.

Remember the main intention behind a morning routine is to get you in a good mood, is to get you feeling positive, productive, focused, energized. So what is it that you need to do to get yourself in that particular state? Remembering, not every day is going to be perfect. You’re not going to wake up every day and be the Superwoman or Superman of your own life.

But starting your day right, starting your day energetic, starting your day focused, starting your day as positive as you possibly can, is really important.

Don’t compare yourself and your mornings to what everybody else is doing. Just find something that gets you energized, focused, and positive. What is that for you? Figure it out and then do that as many days as you possibly can.

ROUTINE 2: A LEARNING ROUTINE

This is specifically for those of you out there who are trying to start a business or are trying to become a content creator of sorts. One thing I will say is that one of the biggest fears that entrepreneurs run into is running out of things to say, and I get it. I’ve been there, I have run out of things to say.

Usually, what keeps me in that uncreative state is that I’m not consuming enough new knowledge or learning new ideas. And that kind of puts me on a bit of a repetitive loop. That’s when I start to feel really uncreative and uninspired.

That’s why I make sure that each and every single day I am learning something new. Do I fail on days? Abso-freaking-lutely. Because, again, we’re not going for perfection, we’re going for progress.

Try to at least carve out 30 minutes to an hour once or twice a week to actually sit down and learn.

If you want to become a YouTuber in 2021, make sure that you are carving out 30 minutes to an hour every single week to learn about thumbnails titles, how to produce video, how to be more confident on camera.

If you want to be an entrepreneur, make sure you sit down and learn about funnels and creating really great products and a really great customer experience.

Whatever it is that you’re trying to achieve or whatever is it that you’re trying to grow, where your attention goes, energy will flow. If you want to get better at something, if you want to progress in a particular area, you have to give yourself the time and space to do so.

There is so much available for you to learn from. So that’s not an excuse. So put it in the calendar, spend time and get in the habit of learning.

ROUTINE 3: A VISIONARY ROUTINE

One thing that I did this year, which was so helpful, was that I actually set Mondays up as my CEO day.

And what I do on Mondays is I check in with my goals and vision that I have for both my life and my business. I then look at all of the things that I’m doing and all the actions that I’m taking. I almost do a mini audit, every single week, to make sure that everything that I am working on is in alignment with the vision that I have for my life and my business.

Months can go by and we can get ourselves really off track if we’re not doing a regular check-in. So once a week, take a couple of hours to connect with your vision.  Sit down and make sure that you’re on track.

ROUTINE FOUR: AN EXERCISE ROUTINE

Exercise is one of the most powerful things that you can do for your life, for your business. I have spoken to many of you in this community and one of the biggest complaints about why you can’t achieve your goals or start a business is because you don’t have the energy to do so. You’re feeling tired all the time, feeling sluggish all the time. And yes, I think nutrition and supplementation and things like that are important, but I can promise you one of the biggest things that helped me to get my energy back is exercise.

Entrepreneurs need to be taking care of themselves. They need to be doing things to increase the energy that they actually have to give, to create, to put themselves out there. And exercise is one of those things that can really do that for you.

Just find some type of movement that you thoroughly enjoy and build a routine around it.

ROUTINE 5: A SELF-CARE ROUTINE

Again, I’m not talking about the self-care routines that you see on YouTube, where you spend seven hours on a Sunday, pampering yourself. I’m talking about doing what you personally need for self-replenishment. For me, it’s things like going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, and getting out in nature. Just figure out what recharges your batteries.

I think, so often, we’re just so caught up in the cycle of being busy in our lives that we’re not taking enough time to be super intentional about how we fill our own cup. Personalizing all of these routines, but this one in particular, your self-care routine is the best thing that you can do for yourself.

If you don’t know yourself enough to know what recharges your own personal batteries, figure it out. Don’t just sit there and think I’ll get to it. Because you won’t. Actually spend some time sitting down and think: What gives you energy. What makes you feel relaxed? Is it meditation? Is it journaling? Is it something active? Is it something passive? Is it getting more sleep? Is it focusing on nutrition? It’s different for everyone.

We’ve all been raised differently. We’ve all got different biological makeups. And so self-awareness and figuring out what you personally need to feel energized and recharged and replenished and creative and all the things that you need to do to live an extraordinary life. Please take the time that you need.

Like I said, for me, pampering myself has something to do with self-care getting out in nature, spending time with people that I care about listening to music. These are all the things that after the activity, I feel better than I did before. I feel more recharged than I did before. Figure that out for you.

I promise you it’s one of the best things you’ll do, not just in the new year, but for the rest of your life.

ROUTINE 6: A RELEASE ROUTINE

You have to find a way to release stress. Now, maybe this sounds a little like the self-care routine, but for me, it’s a little different. My release routine definitely goes more hand-in-hand with my hobbies, doing a Motocross and Muay Thai. When I do these things, it’s like I’m able to focus so intently and get into that flow state that all of the stresses of day-to-day life tend to melt away.

What I would suggest that you do. Having a routine or having something in your life where you can actually release emotion and release stress, whether that’s having a big cry once a week, whether that is punching something like I like to do, maybe that is running, exerting energy, Reiki. Whatever it needs to be. The difference is rather than filling yourself with joy and replenishment, this is going to feel different because it’s about you releasing all of that pent-up energy and pent-up stress.

Now, again, the exercise, the self-care, and the release routine, these are all kind of malleable. I mean, they might end up being the same thing. For me, exercise and releasing with Muay Thai is the same thing, but make sure that you do have a way to decompress your stress.

Figure out what that thing is for you. Because, emotionally, things just get pent-up. They can turn into stress, they can turn into physical pain. We need to channel all of that pent up emotion and that pent up energy out because of the stress of day to day life isn’t going anywhere. We’ve just got to learn how to use it and remove it.

All right! So those are these six routines that I recommend setting up for yourself to have an extraordinary life in the new year.
