Allison Braun — Work Less, Make More Series: The Biz Sistahs

At the moment, we manage the day-to-day operations and long-term strategy for 6 different businesses, including our own (+ Sally has a completely separate editing business to manage). Supporting these brilliant biz women in bringing their unique visions to life can be a lot! We knew from the very beginning that our schedules were going to be fundamental to our success, and we actually used Allison’s Business Pleasure Map early on to get clear on our scheduling boundaries.

Something we do in our business is a quarterly Dream + Scheme, which gives us the opportunity to evaluate our schedules at the beginning of every quarter and make any necessary shifts in alignment with our needs, dreams, and desires. We take into account any significant events coming up in our lives and businesses (as well as the life and biz of each Biz Bestie we support); we make note of any self-care rituals, play days, adventures, and travels we’d like to experience; we consider what we’re promoting or launching; and we plan around when + where our Work:Live:Play Retreat is taking place. This process also helps us decide when we’re taking time off, which we try to alternate as much as we can so that our Biz Besties always feel fully supported.

On the topic of schedules, it feels important to share that we are both recovering workaholics (like, for really reals). Because our tendency is to overwork and over-give, it’s important for us to stay vigilant about how much we’re working, when we’re working, and whether or not our scheduling boundaries are still serving us. Joining a co-working space has helped, as it gives each of us a clearer structure (and end time!) to our work days. (Sally’s at The Riveter in L.A. and Sasha’s at The Wing in London.) We also do our best to check in with each other and make sure we’re each taking time to rest. It’s a work in progress!

Q: What are your main sources of income?

A: Magical Support, Work:Live:Play Retreat, Dream + Scheme, (+ editing, for Sally)

Q: What’s something you’re working on right now that you can share with us?

A: This year, we launched our Work:Live:Play Retreat, which is a quarterly offering held in inspired cities around the world that combines our signature Dream + Scheme Retreat and Co-Working Retreat (so you experience two retreats in one!). While our spring retreat is taking place in Wales next month, we are already planning for our summer retreat in Holland. Sasha will be heading to Haarlem later this month to scope things out and make this retreat experience as magical as possible!

Here’s a bit more from Sally.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies or things to do in your free time?

A: I read A LOT! I consume a lot of content in general, but I particularly love reading. I listen to audiobooks on my commute, on my walks, while I clean, etc. and I read a physical book (as in paperback or hardcover) at night. In general, I like reading two books at a time: one fiction and one non-fiction.

Q: What in your schedule/life nourishes you the most?

A: I’m obsessed with my evening routine — it’s quite simple yet deeply nourishing! After dinner, I shower, brush my teeth, wash my face, have some tea, take CBD oil, and read a book in bed for about an hour. It helps me unwind, disconnect from work, and reconnect with myself. It took me a long time to craft and implement a consistent evening routine that actually feels good, and it has been amazing.
