Don’t look for your old life, it’s gone. — Annapurna Living

5 years ago I fell in love with NYC while shooting Jessica Jones.
The city became the backdrop for so much personal growth.
One of the treasures of that time for me was finding one of my teachers, Paramatama Siri Sadhana.

I met her when she led a yoga class and I knew immediately that I had so much to learn from her.
The next evening she held an all night gong session in a fabulous old building.
With a room full of strangers, I set up my cozy spot and settled in for an all night experience.
We gathered in a circle and made intentions.
We placed rocks and pictures and letters on the altar and then relaxed while she played the gong all night long.

In the morning as I woke from an other-worldly sleep, Paramatma said,
“Don’t look for your old mind—it’s gone.”

My wise teacher prepared me for this time that we are all navigating right now.

Last night at dinner with my family,
I remembered these words.
They whispered into my heart.

As I sat across from my growing, beautiful kids
I heard this within myself:
“Don’t look for your old life—it’s gone.”

The words swirled around the room.
It was as if I was in an altered state.
I was a witness of my life.

I saw each of my children as little ones.
I remembered their births, each as unique as they are.
I remembered the years of make-believe and playing in the backyard of our old house.

My mind at times wants to cling to all that has been beautiful and good.
As I heard these words,
“Don’t look for your old life, it’s gone,”
I felt an opening.
I felt opportunity.
I felt hope.

It is natural to want things to be the way they used to.
Can we bravely face the challenges of these times with open hearts and curiosity?
Can we see others as we see ourselves?
Can we open to transformation and growth?

I am grateful to the teachers that have impacted my life,
and I am grateful to my open heart for making space for such growth.

Sadie Rose and I send infinite love to you and your families.
We share here on Annapurna Living to offer support and tools to navigate these times.
We don’t claim to know what you need.
We never want to tell you what to do.
What we do here is reach out our hands and heart to say,
YOU know.

Quiet the noise and find your way.

We gather with women from all over the world who are craving the same thing—
Authentic, heart-centered living.
