Female Entrepreneurs – Have You Got What It Takes?

Today is International Women’s Day.  Many of the women I know are celebrating in a variety of different ways but are all honouring what it means to be a Woman in today’s society.  Never more so than in the ever-increasing culture of #Metoo.  Women are standing in their power, facing issues head on and trying to make the world a better place in general.  It may not always be easy, but women have shown a great talent for resiliency and the continued action of getting up, one more time after facing yet another challenge.

I have the privilege of working with Women who are running successful businesses every day.  As with all things running your own business can be exhausting while at the same time exhilarating.  Women all over the world are stepping up.  As my friend Heidi Allan of the Positive People Army likes to say – We are taking back the planet – for good!  Female entrepreneurs are literally starting new businesses every day.  In Canada there are now more Female than Male entrepreneurs coming in at just over 52%.  Remember only 50 years ago women only made up just over 4.5% of the workforce.  Look at us now.

Here is the overall difference that I see with Female Entrepreneurs.  They are starting businesses at a growing number not only for Financial freedom but rather for a greater and higher cause.  They want to make a difference in the world.  They want to start Businesses that are socially conscious, environmentally sustainable, that are contributing to the greater good. In other words, how are they, in ways large or small, taking back the planet for their children and grandchildren.  They are overcoming obstacles, breaking boundaries, collaborating not competing and supporting each other all along the way.  Would I be over-reaching to say that there is a sisterhood of entrepreneurs with a network that is going global?  No, I don’t think it is an over-reach.  I think we are watching it happen daily.  Making a profit is not enough for female business owners – we crave transformation not transactions, we want to enrich lives for ourselves and others. So, let’s keep pushing ladies to make the world a better place!
