What is the one book that you would recommend to every aspiring female entrepreneur?
5 Day Weekend – this book transformed my way of thinking. My favorite quote from the book is, “If you don’t find a way to make money in your sleep, you will work until you die.”
What behavior or habit have you adopted that has had the biggest impact on your business?
Being disciplined with scheduling in self-care, which for me is getting monthly massages and taking weekends COMPLETELY OFF, meaning I don’t work at all for 2 days straight so I am at full energy during the week.
What’s one monthly subscription you could not live without?
One hundred percent my Netflix subscription! And also my Orange Theory subscription.
What advice would you give to your younger self in relation to life and work?
Don’t live to work, work so that you can LIVE. After a few years of being in business, I got totally burned out and realized that I had no hobbies outside of work. I had to rediscover my passions outside of business which wouldn’t have been as hard if I had just kept a better balance at the beginning. Balance is all about priorities, if you prioritize being balanced, you will be.
What is something that happened to you or your business, that felt disappointing at the time that turned out to be a blessing in disguise?
Every single time I hit a technical difficulty with LadyBossBlogger.com, which happened A LOT especially during my first 6 months of blogging, I felt anxious and disappointed. But I forced myself to learn my way through it and was able to keep building my knowledge and further my business after each and every roadblock which has helped me become resilient and helped me become a better teacher at helping others overcome their obstacles too.
What is a commonly held opinion in your industry that you disagree with?
People like to make money from putting Google Ads on their blog, however, the amount of effort it takes to bring people to your blog to just have them click off to an ad where they may or may not purchase something isn’t worth all the effort in my opinion. Plus ad revenue is minimal compared to the products and services you can sell on your blog.
If you could only work 2 hours per week on your business, what would you do?
I’ve gotten to a point where I really don’t work that much because my systems run themselves now, so I would work on getting outside of the house more and to network in person because business boils down to forming great relationships and that happens most organically face-to-face.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting their own business?
No one has it all figured out. The people who build businesses are the ones who simply start and figure it out as they go along.
