Female Founder Spotlight: Vix Meldrew, Founder of Grow & Glow

In the monthly Female Founder Spotlight series, I interview inspiring female entrepreneurs, business owners, and bloggers, asking them about how they got their businesses to where they are today. In this interview, we meet Vix Meldrew

Vix Meldrew is an ex-primary school teacher turned full-time content creator and community founder. After growing her blog and Instagram into a full-time job, she founded Grow & Glow – a membership community for creators and creatives so she could share her path to success with others and help them through training and resources to live a life they love too.

She lives in rural Kent with her husband and cockapoo puppy Olive and can often be found watching Netflix, reading business books and always has a Diet Coke in hand.

What is the one book that you would recommend to every aspiring female entrepreneur?

My favourite book, that totally changed my mindset when it comes to building my online presence is ‘Playing Big’ by Tara Mohr. It really challenges the way we think of our abilities and what’s possible for us!

What behavior or habit have you adopted that has had the biggest impact on your business?

Since I learned more about ‘money mindset’ and the flow of money, the business has been free to grow. This is because I’m not afraid to invest back into my platforms because I believe what’s flowing out will flow back if I’m spending with the right intentions!

What’s one monthly subscription you could not live without?

I am OBSESSED with Zapier! It helps me set up really fun automations between my websites and my social channels so that so much of the business can be done on automation.

What advice would you give to your younger self in relation to life and work?

I used to be a primary school teacher and I always believed that work was something that almost happens to us as opposed to us actively enjoying it and being excited to build something so I suppose I’d like to tell a younger Vix to keep searching for the thing that you jump out of bed to do!

What is something that happened to you or your business, that felt disappointing at the time that turned out to be a blessing in disguise?

We recently hosted a huge, free event for our members and we’re excited to host something on such a big scale but only a slice of those members actually showed up – whilst I felt sad that we’d organised something so amazing for so many people – those who actually showed up had a much better experience because it was way more intimate.

It taught me about serving those who show up for us and making things as fantastic for them as possible!

What is a commonly held opinion in your industry that you disagree with?

In the blogging/influencer industry, lots of people think it’s easy. That they can start a platform and followers will automatically flock to them and then brands will be begging to work with them

But building trust with an audience and relationships with brands takes work, dedication and good intentions – we teach a lot of this messaging within Grow & Glow – how to build sustainable online platforms that are centred on your biggest passion.

If you could only work 2 hours per week on your business, what would you do?

I’d create content for our membership community. Serving them with knowledge and skills they can go off and use to grow their own platforms is the best thing ever! Especially when they share their wins with us and we all celebrate together!

Can you share another female entrepreneur who inspires you that you think we should talk to next? Tell us why you love to follow her journey and what lessons you have learned from her.

One of my favourites is Chloe Slade. Chloe has 2 businesses – an accountancy firm (who I use for my business) and a money and manifestation membership. She is someone who leads fearlessly and shares her time and knowledge so freely. I’ve learned so much about manifestation and stepping into my higher self so I can show up more purposefully online and in my business from her.
