Henning Introduces On-Demand Production As Part Of Plus-Size Sustainability Effort

There’s a reason plus-size brand Henning decided to release a Spring collection during the anniversary of the pandemic. Lauren Chan, Founder and CEO, says the collection itself is a direct response to the past year.

Henning has pivoted their manufacturing process from a traditional, seasonal model to an on-demand, drop model. Chan shares, “It’s a move to turn fast fashion on its head, while moving towards increased sustainability and supporting local industry.” Chan says that the company will now produce individual items in the days after a customer order is placed instead of producing an entire collection in bulk upfront.

“This reduces pressure on cash flow, accelerates product-market-fit, and increases sustainability—the three major themes we doubled-down on during the pandemic,” says Chan. She says Henning is incredibly proud to have made it through 2020, and to continue to serve and advocate for plus-size women.

The collection is focused on what we’re wearing at home, and includes a loungewear set, stretch pants, bike shorts and an anti-bacterial mask.

Chan calls the collection “uniquely Henning.”

“We use high-quality materials, like machine washable cashmere, anti-bacterial viscose, and recycled polyester. We offer a high level fit, complete with elastane-plated waistbands, side slits to prevent clinging, and extra mask room for larger faces. Finally, high-quality craftsmanship and an ethical production process,” says Chan.

Chan believes that the collection not only proves that small fashion companies like Henning did make it out alive in 2020, but that they came out of a hard year even better than before.
