How to Keep Your Sanity as a Work at Home Parent

Ask your significant other or spouse to take turns to clean, feed, and put the child(ren) to bed or delegate certain tasks to them that they’re capable of doing without your direct guidance.

Hire help where you see fit!

If the occasional babysitter is less than ideal for you, then consider a part-time or full-time nanny. Can’t keep up with the chores around the home, consider hiring a housekeeper or a handy person to complete projects.

Whether you were a parent before or after you started your business, you have the same 24 hours in a day, only now you have to split your time between your business and, well, life. That means that you need to be far more conscious and mindful about the tasks and projects you choose to focus on to grow and scale your business.

For the business, where could you use more support? It’s important to know which tasks you can outsource or delegate to someone else and which tasks only you can do for the business. Consider making a list of tasks you do in your business – marketing, sales, administrative, etc. Ask yourself for each task if it’s something only you can do or could someone else do it. Be honest and realistic.

Once you’ve identified which tasks you can pass onto someone else, consider hiring a virtual assistant (VA) or an online business manager (OMB), a marketing consultant, like myself, to assist with your marketing needs.

Keep in mind, too, that even though, as business owners, we wear many hats, we’re not meant to do it all ourselves. We have to learn to understand and accept that getting support or hiring help is to our benefit, both personally and professionally.

CARE FOR YOURSELF

You deserve to take care of yourself because if you don’t, you will feel depleted and run out of energy, and at some point, you’ll get to a stage where you are not able to effectively take care of your family, the home, or your business(es). Trust me; you don’t want to get into that position.

As the saying goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup!

Therefore, take care of yourself. Set aside time for you to do things you enjoy. Whether that’s taking a hot bath, reading a book, going for a walk, or binge-watching Netflix – do it!

The more you focus on taking care of your needs and refilling the proverbial cup, the more balanced, focused, and less frazzled person you will be. Not only that, but it’ll help you be the best version of yourself.

In short, you are worth it, so make self-care a priority!

Keeping your sanity as a work at home parent can be as simple as making mindful and intentional changes like mentioned above. I often see with many of my clients that they’re trying to overcomplicate things, which only leads to them feeling more stressed out and overwhelmed. Please keep isimple, sweetie (KISS)!
