Instagram™ Hashtag Strategy for Business

Does your Instagram™ hashtag strategy for your business include following hashtags for your business? Sure, scrolling can help you find a lot of Instagram™ content.

But with an effective hashtag follow strategy, you can more quickly and efficiently find content and other accounts that are relevant to your industry. In this blog post, discover how following hashtags can help you connect with your ideal customers.

In this blog post:

While you can connect with people with Instagram™ Direct Messages and Stories, they’re not the only way. While Instagram™ is always changing, hashtags have remained a consistent way to connect with more people implement an effective Instagram™ strategy.

Even better, use a branded hashtag in each of the Instagram™ neighborhoods

For example, the SBZ Team has always encouraged our Ready, Set, Gram community members to use #RSGCommunity. With this unifying hashtag, our community members have been able to connect (even when they’re opposite sides of the globe) and even do business together.

Getting your clients and customers to use a branded hashtag also makes it easier for you to follow content connected to your business and spark more interactions in the Instagram™ Direct Message.

Another bonus is that you can find user generated content in a snap. To date, there have been over 30k pieces of content tagged with our #RSGCommunity.

But following hashtags doesn’t just mean focusing on your branded content. When you tap into a hashtag explore tab you can also discover the content that’s sparking the most conversation and at the top of the hashtag hub.

While it’s easy to assume which hashtags are leading to the most conversations, taking a deeper dive into the top performing content might help you uncover hashtags you didn’t even consider.

Now that we’ve unpacked why following hashtags is so important, here’s how to follow a hashtag.

If you want to see the hashtags that someone is following, first tap into their followers. Then, toggle over the hashtag tab.

For example, let’s take a look at the hashtags that Kendall follows for her Inspireme.co account. One of her hashtags that she follows is #LawOfAttraction.

This hashtag is not only relevant to Kendall’s business, but it also gives her a deeper look at the content that is resonating in her industry niche.

Another reason that following hashtags is useful is to see other potential hashtags that you’re not using.

For example, if you’re in the health and fitness industry the hashtags for your Instagram™ strategy seem almost endless. In fact, it would be really easy to use general hashtags that are too vague.

Take a look at the hashtags that Riva, a doctor and RSG community member, strategically follows hashtags in her wellness niche.

If you’re not following hashtags that your competitors are using, you’re missing out on a key part of your marketing strategy.

By now you’ve probably figured out that using random, crowded hashtags are not the most effective strategy. Instead, focus on the hashtags that are the most relevant to your industry niche.

Instead of stumbling upon content that has little or nothing to do with your Instagram™ hashtag strategy, focus on the top content in these more focused hashtag hubs.
