INTERVIEW: KIMBERLY HESS

FEATURED BUSINESS OWNER

KIMBERLY HESS WITH KDH COACHING

Kimberly Hess is a wife, mom, and life coach residing in Northern California. After a career in a wide array of positions: retail, F.B.I., 9-1-1 Dispatcher, Crime Scene Technician, administration, corporate office, outside sales, and a local insurance office, she recognized that every woman has natural skills and talents. When you are able to utilize these skills it becomes more than just a job.

While experiencing life on the road in an RV with her husband she started her business, KDH Coaching. Life is meant to be LIVED and Kimberly’s passion is for women to recognize their potential and abilities, and to find what they love to do.

Coaching with Kimberly is similar to sharing a cup of tea or coffee with a friend. As you share the ups and downs of life you will be taken to a deeper level as Kimberly asks questions that will explore options and feelings that will help you reach your destination.

Professional training is through Coaches Training Institute (CTI), Direct Selling Women’s Alliance (DSWA) Coach Excellence School, and a member of the John Maxwell Team.

Kimberly’s positive outlook on life fills her with the desire to see others find their God Inspired Plan where they are learning how and where to find their purpose and passion and the balance between success and prosperity. Finding that job where you lose track of time doing what you were made to do – is possible!

When away from her office you will find Kimberly reading to increase her knowledge or for fun, walking her dog, taking photos of God’s beauty, riding her horse, and visiting with family and friends.

What is your backstory? How did you find your calling?

Life! Having to find a new job after moving to a new area is always challenging especially when you have to make a career change. I was one of those people who didn’t like change. I like my stability in a familiar situation. As you discover when having to move from one area to another and all that comes with it: new friends, new jobs, new doctors, new schools the more you do it the more you get comfortable with the uncomfortable! After about 3 years at a job, I found myself getting short-timer-itis and would start looking around for something else.

My husband and I were thinking about living the RV life and being the type of person I am I couldn’t imagine not working. I thought that with my background a Career Counselor would be perfect. But, God had a different plan! After a credit analysis, my college credits were outdated and I would have had to start all over with my education – nothing was transferable! My aunt suggested researching Life Coaches and not soon after that I was registered with CTI and about to start my new career!

What do you enjoy the most about what you do?

When coaching I love hearing the passion come out and getting excited about a new perspective. Being creative, learning, and growing!

What’s your greatest achievement to date? Why are you proud of it?

Being married for 40 years! It hasn’t always been easy but with determination, commitment, and knowing I’m right where God wants me to be is what brings peace during the bumps along the way.

Who has inspired you the most on your journey?

Family…Starting with my Grandma who gave me my love of JOY…my Mum who is always there for me with an encouraging word…my Sister who, well she’s my rock! Always willing to give any of my crazy ideas a try…my daughter who has proven anything is possible! I am blessed beyond measure!

Who would you love to meet one day and why?

This was the hardest question for me! I don’t know why…I guess because I’ve met some remarkable people in my life and am blessed with all who I’ve come across.

I’d love to sit and share over a cup of coffee with Michelle McKinney Hammond. She is an author and I’ve had her book The Diva* Principle for years without reading it. The Diva part just didn’t sit well with me so I just kept it in my “to-read” pile. One day I picked it up and started reading it and once I got into the book I discovered that Diva had a different meaning Divine Inspiration for Victorious Attitude and the book was filled with stories from women in the bible. I missed this explanation on the cover of the book!

Just to hear all she has to say about being a Christian woman today and tying it all in with God’s plan, hear her sing, and discover her secret for being a successful businesswoman!

What do you wish someone told you before you became an entrepreneur/business owner?

Content…It’s all about the content! Always be writing/journaling about your life as you live those experiences. I’m someone who doesn’t remember different fun stories I’ve experienced later down the road. Then again I have 60+ years of living life so my database is a little full! If I had my life journal it would be so much easier to recall some of my experiences to then turn them into a story on the topic that I’m writing about so I’m being relatable and can bring value to the reader.

What advice would you like to give others who are on the same or similar journey as you?

Enjoy the journey! It’s about doing something…failing…learning…getting back up…trying again!!! Personal Development is huge! Take time to read, listen, follow someone who you admire, and have the same beliefs you do. Don’t hide behind your computer – do the things that get you in front of the people because someone out there needs to hear what you have to say!

What’s the best piece of advice that you have received recently?

Damian Johnson – From my John Maxwell Program: As you read and find tidbits of information that you want to use later to use the A.C.T. Method of marking what you’re reading. This works great for all those great personal development books and when there is a ton of great stuff you want to implement!

A – Action for something that you want to do
C – Change for a change you want to start doing
T – Teach or share with others

When you’re done reading the book go through and list out all your A’s, C’s, and T’s in their own column. Then take that list and prioritize down to your Top 5. That way you have doable ACTION items and can implement some new concepts into your life or business!

What’s next for you?

To take my business to the next level…get more consistent, increase my client base, offer more classes and get out there. Start taking action on all the things I’m learning!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Moving slow and steady like a turtle! Think of all the possibilities of technology changes! Wow! After this pandemic anything is possible!

What can we catch you doing when you’re not working?

Walking with my dog, kissing my horses’ velvet nose, doing something creative like knitting, sewing, metal stamping, or making chocolate chip cookies!

What book impacted your life the most and why?

The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. I’ve read this book 3 times just to remind myself that it’s not all about having it all! It’s about how you treat people and value your children at each stage of their life. The foundation that you give your children really does set them up for how they will act as adults. A great reminder to be in the moment and cherish those moments with your child.

What are three random facts about you?

  1. I was a crime scene technician.

  2. Snoopy is my favorite Peanut’s character.

  3. My parents were told by my piano teacher to save their money! I could never master playing the piano with two hands!

What is your favorite quote?

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” – Oscar Wilde

What special offer would you like to share with us?

My Creating the Life You Love Checklist! It will help you to come to a place of deep self-acceptance and self-compassion with God at the center. You can download it below.
