JPMorgan Chase Promotes Potential Successors To Jamie Dimon To Co-Lead Consumer Business

Just two years after Marianne Lake and Jennifer Piepszak were brought onto their most recent roles at JPMorgan, they have been tasked to lead the bank’s consumer operations, which accounts for nearly 40% of the company’s profits. Gordon Smith, co-president and current leader of consumer and community banking, is stepping down at the end of this year. The two women have been eyed as potential successors to Jamie Dimon, and the move to make them co-leads of such a significant arm of business, overseeing card services, home lending and auto financing divisions, has turned heads.

Let’s learn more about these leaders. In this article, Jennifer Piepszak.

Piepszak has been with JPMorgan Chase for more than 25 years, most recently as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Marianne Lake in the role in 2019. She has spent seven years in the company’s Consumer & Community Banking division that she will now co-lead. She previously served as CEO of Chase Card Services, which includes Chase’s consumer, small business, and commercial card businesses. Before becoming CEO of Card Services, Piepszak was CEO of Business Banking, which serves 2.5 million U.S. small businesses, and prior to that was Chief Financial Officer for Mortgage Banking.

Piepzak is the head of the crisis management and business resiliency teams at the company, and has been a key leader during the pandemic. These teams are leading the charge to eventually return more than 250,000 employees to the office.

Piepszak holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Fairfield University and is on the United Way of New York City’s board of directors. She appeared on Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in Finance list in 2020.

Piepszak, age 51, and her husband have three children and live in New Jersey.
