The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) recently convened corporate Latina executives in Dallas, Texas, at the 2024 HACR Latina Empow(h)er Summit for a series of insightful sessions and discussions aimed at empowering their professional journeys.
One of the standout sessions was “Strategies for Success: Leveraging Bias for Career Growth,” which explored how biases within organizational cultures can be turned into opportunities for career advancement. Attendees gained practical strategies for navigating biases, influencing decision-making processes and carving out equitable career paths for themselves.

The keynote session, “From Loss to Resilience: Prioritizing Physical and Mental Wellbeing,” featured Glenda Valero de Silano, the highest-ranking Latina at Chevron, sharing her journey of resilience and self-care following profound losses in her life. Her story served as a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing well-being both in the workplace and in life.
The panel discussion on “The Caregiver’s Dilemma” addressed the challenges faced by caregivers in balancing their responsibilities at home with their careers, emphasizing the need for self-care amidst caregiving duties.
Attendees were also treated to inspiring fireside chats with industry leaders such as Nellie Borrero, global inclusion and diversity senior strategic advisor at Accenture; and Diana Flores, a trailblazer in the world of sports; who shared their journeys of overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
Another session highlighted the strategic advantages of golf for professional success, with Latina executives sharing how they utilized the sport to build networks, enhance leadership skills and advance their careers.
The summit also delved into important topics such as Latina leadership on boards, the experience of being the only one in the room, and the unique challenges faced by women in nonprofit leadership roles.
A highlight of the event was the fireside chat with Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, a renowned journalist and former CNBC anchor, who shared insights from her distinguished career in financial journalism and emphasized the importance of diversity and representation in the industry.
Overall, the 2024 HACR Latina Empow(h)er Summit provided a platform for Latina executives to gain valuable insights, network with peers and be inspired to further their professional journeys.
