There are so many podcasts available for entrepreneurs that it can be overwhelming. You can probably relate to opening up your podcast app, subscribing to loads of channels and downloading a squillion episodes only to never listen consistently to any of them! So to narrow the list I have put together this guide with all my favourite podcasts for entrepreneurs, creatives, small business owners and bloggers, sharing why they are great and what you can expect to learn from each of them. Plus I share a few of my favourite episodes from them!

1) How I Built This by Guy Raz

How I Built This is a super interesting look behind the scenes with the founders of some of the world’s biggest startups like AirBnB, Shopify, and Teach For America. This podcast was also recommended by Shireen Gupta in one of our Female Founder Spotlight!

2) Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn

Pat Flynn is one of the most recognized names in the entrepreneurial world and for good reason. As you probably guessed, his podcast covers all sorts of useful information in creating businesses that generate passive income. I especially like it because he makes complicated topics super understandable, and gives lots of good actionable advice.

The show is approaching 400 episodes so you would have a ton of content to work through if you are a new listener, but some of my favorite episodes are Episode 369: Top 5 Major Business Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make and Episode 317: Make Money with Your Skills—Creating Awesome.

3) How To Start a Startup by Stanford University

Want to get what essentially amounts to a free mini Stanford MBA on running a startup? Then I highly recommend listening to this podcast! Given as a series of lectures at Stanford University, the How to Start a Startup podcast brings some of the top entrepreneurs from the famous Y Combinator incubator to give their tips on how to successfully run a startup.

Learn from industry experts like Peter Thiel, Ben Horowitz, and Sam Altman through lectures that are under an hour each, and you can even dive into lecture slides and recommended reading on Sam Altman’s website dedicated to the course. There isn’t a much more productive way to spend your morning commute than plugging directly into some free Stanford classes!

4) TED Radio Hour by NPR

Watching and listening to TED talks is one of my favorite activities, and this podcast makes it even easier! If you don’t know, TED talks are presented by incredible people who do a deep dive into a topic in 18 minutes or less. Some people to grace the TED stage include Brené Brown, David Blaine and Bill Gates.

Each episode of TED Radio Hour centers around a common theme and dives into several related TED Talks on the topic, such as “How We Love”, “Moving Forward”, and “Jumpstarting Creativity”. I can pretty much guarantee you will feel smarter and more wordly just by listening to one episode!

5) Entrepreneurs On Fire by John Lee Dumas

One of the most valuable ways we can meet our goals is to learn from others who have already been there, and this podcast is great insight from some of the world’s top entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs on Fire is an interview style podcast with episodes typically ranging from 30-50 minutes, so it gives enough time to really dive into some of the topics.

Each episode features one guest and covers the entire range of entrepreneurial topics, from mindset to branding to investing. The podcast has interviewed some of the biggest names in the startup world, including Tim Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuk and Seth Godin, along with many people you probably haven’t heard of but have great knowledge to share.

With over 2,000 episodes (!) this one will keep you busy for a while, but some of my favorite episodes are How to Build a Future-Proof Business with Scott Voelker and Creative Cash Flow Strategies for Bootstrapped Entrepreneurs with Christina Stembel.

6) 99% Invisible by Roman Mars

It’s no secret that I absolutely love design and in another life I would have probably liked to be a professional graphic designer. 99% Invisible is a great podcast about how design impacts our everyday life in ways you might not think about.

Each episode focuses on one topic, from fortune cookies to the color of currency, and highlights some interesting points that are often overlooked. If you are looking to appreciate more about the subtle design decisions all around us, give it a listen! Some of my favorite episodes are Making Up Ground and El Gordo.

7) Masters of Scale by Reid Hoffman

Masters of Scale is a great entrepreneurial and finance focused podcast about scaling a business. The host is a co-founder of LinkedIn, so he definitely knows what he is talking about! Each episode presents a very interesting look on how a business can scale, and then does a dive into scaling a business by interviewing the founders of successful companies.

Even if you’re not planning to be the next Netflix or LinkedIn, getting first hand insight form some of the top entrepreneurial minds is a surefire way to get some great ideas you can apply to your own blog and business!

8) Theory Of Content by Amber Bracegirdle and Joshua Unseth

This is a weekly podcast from the creators of Mediavine with all sorts of blogging news and tips.

For those of you who don’t know, Mediavine is one of the best advertising networks to run on your blog. For many bloggers, qualifying for Mediavine (which requires about 25,000 views per month) is one of the first major goals you want to reach in your blogging career!

The Theory of Content podcast is filled with great, actionable tips each week about current industry happenings related to SEO and website content. They include some very useful tips on current changes and best practices, so I highly recommend giving it a listen each week to see what has changed in the blogging space.

Even if you aren’t using Mediavine on your website, you can still learn and apply the advice shared in the podcast episode to help your blog grow!

9) This American Life by NPR

Even if you are British (like me), this podcast should definitely be on your weekly download list. Whilst this is not a business podcast per se, it is so good that I wanted to include it in the list! This American Life is an hour long program led by Ira Glass which tells very interesting stories tied together around a single topic. The stories range from hilariously funny, to incredibly sad, to eye opening and educational, but they are always extremely interesting.

There have been too many good episodes to list, but some of my absolute favorites are Switched at Birth (Episode 360) and My Pen Pal (Episode 246). The podcast is one of the best ways to expand your worldview and learn about some topics you would never think about otherwise. Give it a download – your morning commute will thank you!

10) Checking In by Susan David and TED

I am a big fan of TED Talks and their related podcasts (like TED Talks Daily), so when I found out that TED was putting together a brand new podcast for the current Coronavirus situation I knew I had to check it out!

“Checking In” is a small dose of what we could all use right now, with short 10-15 minute episodes with Susan David, a psychologist at Harvard Medical School. The podcast touches on relevant issues that we are all facing right now, including boredom, fear, and anxiety. The latest episode from yesterday includes a chat with one of my favorite authors James Clear on the importance of habits, which is a great listen.

I highly recommend adding this to your podcast rotation for a small boost to know that we are all in this together!

11) Mixergy by Andrew Warner

Closing in on almost 2,000 episodes, Mixergy is an entrepreneur and business podcast will keep you busy for a long time!

In the podcast Andrew Warner interviews fellow entrepreneurs to dive into their stories, challenges, and successes. The podcast provides actionable advice from some of the biggest names in the entrepreneur world, including interviews with the founders of successful companies like Wikipedia, Groupon and LinkedIn.

They release a new episode every day or 2 and are very relevant for the current situation, including one of the latest episodes on How to survive COVID shutdown when your customers are hotels, venues, and restaurants. They also have various collections of interviews, courses and topics on their website, including one collection featuring some of their favorite interviews with female founders.

12)  The Passion Economy by Adam Davidson

What happens when you combine the deep, interesting stories from This American Life with the real world economic issues of Planet Money? You get this new podcast!

The Passion Economy is a brand new podcast from This American Life contributor Adam Davidson which dives into stories of people who make a living doing what they love. In fact, making a living is secondary to most of these guests, and doing something they are passionate about is their primary focus.

We are all undergoing some pretty radical shifts right now, both professionally and personally, so this podcast came out at a perfect time to help you think about that next step in your own life.

13) The Michelle Obama Podcast by Michelle Obama

Even the former first lady is getting into the podcast game, and I’m so glad she did!

Michelle Obama released her first full episode of her new podcast recently on Spotify, interviewing none other than Barack Obama. Michelle is one of my favorite inspirational women and I’ve previously talked about her excellent book Becoming, and the podcast episode lived up to the hype!

In just under an hour, Michelle dives into a wide range of topics with her husband, including their shared experiences, what she wished she had in her childhood home (stairs!), and the fact happiness in life comes from helping others instead of chasing your own success.

Since the first episode Michelle has discussed topics of health, relationships and marriage with special guests.

14) Your Undivided Attention by Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin

Many people are talking about the new Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma”, and this new podcast is a perfect complement if you are interested in learning more about how technology is impacting our attention and our daily lives.

Tristan Harris is a former Google Design Ethicist and successful entrepreneur who left Google to create The Center for Humane Technology. The nonprofit aims to educate people on how to use technology in a responsible way and the potential dangers that come with evolving technology.

Each podcast episode does a deeper dive into human nature, including interviews with experts on cults, election hacking, and even magicians.

Our attention is one of our most important assets, so if you are interested in learning more then give this podcast a listen!

15) 10 Minute Entrepreneur by Sean Castrina

We all have enough going on in our busy lives and trying to find the time to squeeze in another podcast can be tough. That’s where 10 Minute Entrepreneur comes in!

Unlike a lot of other podcast recommendations I’ve shared, 10 Minute Podcast is a great quick hit of entrepreneurial advice that can be listened to in small chunks of 10 to 20 minutes.

Create by serial entrepreneur Sean Castrina, the podcast contains episodes interviewing some of the best minds in business along with skill based episodes on topics like mentorship and selling your business.

If you want to get a daily dose of business advice without the commitment of an hour long podcast or 300 page book, then check out 10 Minute Entrepreneur!

16) Beyond The To-Do List by Erik Fisher

Beyond The To-Do List is a great podcast for people who often feel overwhelmed by our ever-growing list of things to do each day.

Each week features a guest on the podcast who shares real-world advice and tips on how to be more productive in both our personal and professional lives.

I really enjoyed a recent episode with author Cait Flanders on how to opt-out of other people’s expectations of you and instead live your own intentional life.

The guests are all really interesting, so if you are looking to reduce some of the overwhelm in your own life then give it a listen!
