My answer is always, “I don’t.”Β Β
For me, balance is a mindset, notΒ an actual time factor.
After all, we have more “life” hours than “work” hours.
Here are the facts:
- Did you know there areΒ 168 hoursΒ in a week?Β
- If you sleep 8 hours a night, you haveΒ 112 waking hoursΒ per week.Β
- The average AmericanΒ worksΒ 40-50 hoursΒ per week.Β Β
So why do so many of us feel like we don’t have enough time to balance life as a family and career woman?Β
I believe the answer is to increase theΒ qualityΒ of our “life” hours.
Here are some examplesΒ of how I do “life” hours:Β
-
Dinner every night with the family, together at the dinner table.Β
No tech is allowed, and we always ask each other for “peaches, pits, and fuzzes” (positives, negatives, and surprises) of the day.
This encourages engaged conversation with follow-up questions and answers.Β
Β -
Scheduled self-care time.
I wash my faceΒ every single nightΒ and do a little yoga by the bed on the floor before sleeping.
Even if it’s just one stretch, it often feels so good that it leads to more yummy stretching! Ahhhhh…
Β -
Plan time in advance for passion projects.Β
Research shows that hobbies reduce stress as much as exercising does.
When youΒ planΒ time for these projects, you plan your way to quality happiness and “life” hours.Β
Β
In yourΒ Savor Life Planner, write out how you want to increase quality “life” hours by listing out self-care time, hobbies, and fun activities. Don’t stop there–make sure to carve out time for it in your planner!Β π |
Β
Let’s stop telling ourselves we don’t have time for “life.” We do!
Let’s instead commit toΒ planningΒ with intention how we spend our “life” hours so that we feel balanced.Β
Here’s to an abundance of time,Β
