Torrid Celebrates 20 Years of Plus-Size Fashion With A New Collection


This month plus-size fashion company, Torrid, celebrated their 20-year anniversary by launching a new collection called Retro Chic. The limited-edition capsule collection is an homage to the signature style Torrid debuted two decades ago.

In 2001 Torrid opened its first store in California, and has since expanded to over 600 stores operating in 36 states. Initially a subsidiary of Hot Topic, Torrid was the response to an under-served demand for trendy, statement plus-size fashion.

According to a press release from the company, the new collection is, “Leaning into the brand’s nostalgic, vintage roots.” Torrid CEO and brand president, Liz Muñoz, has spent the last three-and-a-half years leading a fit-perfecting initiative fitting over 36,000 items of clothing on professional size 18 models. Muñoz has even fit on herself.

After a well-received collaboration with Betsey Johnson this year, this anniversary collection is in good company.
