Torrid Community Models Get Confidence Tips From Nicole Byer

Plus-size retailer, Torrid, invited comedian and podcaster Nicole Byer to host a coaching session with the 10 community models who will be the faces of the company’s 2021 holiday collection. The models are the winners of an open virtual casting call. The plus-size retailer launched the initiative, titled #TeamTorrid, in May in hopes of finding diverse plus-size women who would become the faces of the end-of-year collection. The winners will come together in Los Angeles for the photo shoot this month.

Torrid decided to enlist Byer’s help to encourage the winners to “tap into their unstoppable selves,” says Torrid. During last month’s coaching session with the 10 winners, Byer shared confidence tips.

Over 7,000 women entered the virtual casting call, which invited women to submit photos and a video addressing what “unstoppable” means to them. The company narrowed the pool of applicants down to 30 finalists, and the 10 winners were selected via public voting.

The campaign is part of the brand’s twentieth anniversary celebration, and, according to a Torrid statement, serves as a followup to the company’s tradition of finding models from their community.
