wegg® Admires Kamala Harris’ Historic Victory – Women Entrepreneurs Grow Global®

My mother would look at me and she’d say, ‘Kamala, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you are not the last,’”
-Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States

This past Wednesday, January 20th, Kamala Harris was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States. Not only is Harris the first woman to hold this office, but she is also, “the first child of immigrants, the first Black woman, the first South Asian American, and the first mixed-race woman,” writes Janell Hobson in her Ms. article, “Kamala Harris and the Feminist Future of America.”

Harris’ historic win is inspiring to women and girls all over the world. She has broken through a barrier that had not included women for over 200 years. As an organization that champions women to achieve whatever they put their minds to, wegg® admires Harris for achieving this milestone. We are proud that women all over the world can now envision themselves in the second-highest office in the land.

An essential component to wegg’s purpose is the belief that by empowering a woman’s business or career ambitions, you are empowering every aspect of her life. Hobson explains Harris’ unique path of putting her career before her personal life as follows,

“For good measure, Harris is representative of a growing number of women who have focused on their careers while coming to marriage and motherhood later in life (Harris married at age 49 and is a stepmother to her husband’s children). Her life story has, in so many ways, undercut the conventional portrait of American womanhood.”

There is no one way to be a woman, and there is no one way to be a leader. Let us hope that Harris’ journey to being a woman of political prominence and power becomes one of many in the years to come. This victory is one large step towards creating a world that is equitable and inclusive for all. wegg is proud to congratulate Vice President Harris on this momentous accomplishment. She may be the first, but she will not be the last.
