But now more than ever, Tulum has been the buzziest hotspot for all travelers looking for a grand escape. Not only is the beach town perfectly curated for instagram photo shoots, it’s also home to many wellness and spiritual communities.

This is what attracted Samora Suber, yoga teacher and life coach, to host her annual Worthy Retreat in Tulum. “There’s so much history and beauty in this area. It’s the perfect backdrop for inner healing and connection.”

This past May, Samora welcomed ten women of color on a small COVID-safe retreat at an all inclusive resort. During this 6 day, five-star experience, these ladies were able to unplug, reconnect to their intuition, and dig deep into hidden habits that kept them feeling stuck, unworthy, and battling with imposter syndrome.

Through daily yoga, meditation, and mindset coaching workshops, the ladies were able to be guided in a transformational experience to become more clear, connected, and confident as they continue on their path with new perspectives.

“I learned that I am worthy of being loved and accepted for every part of myself, weak and strong. I can do things to better my life experience and it’s okay if I have to fail and try again to be my best self, that’s just part of the experience.” Valencia, one of the retreat participants shared.

Not only was the retreat experience a reawakening but Suber also left retreat goers with several takeaways to encourage continued growth after their departure. Here are some key principles that each woman learned at the retreat that anyone can incorporate into their daily life:

  1. Carve out time to put yourself first everyday. Even if it’s only for five minutes, prioritizing your thoughts, feelings, and needs each day sends an unconscious signal that you are important, worthy, and cherished. The ladies started each morning with a meditation session.
  2. Move your body. Each day, the ladies were led through a Motivational Yoga practice that pairs motivating affirmations to specific yoga sequences to push past physical, mental, and emotional blocks and to release trapped stress. Moving daily helps you to feel more clear and confident in your mind, body, and spirit.
  3. Recognize your blocks and baggage. Being aware of obstacles and habits in your life that keep you stuck and that limit you in some way is the first step to transformation. In the retreat workshops, participants were asked to think about where negative patterns show up in their life and the source the cause of them. Take time to evaluate what you can do differently when that pattern is triggered is key to feeling empowered to change.
  4. Forgive yourself over and over again.  Suber says, “We are usually very hard on ourselves, especially when we don’t feel like we’re living to our fullest potential. We have to learn how to forgive ourselves for our mistakes, for how we treat ourselves when we’re hurt, and for blaming ourselves when things go wrong.” Retreat attendees participated in a forgiveness activity that allowed them to release animosity towards themselves and others. Forgiveness is the ultimate expression of love.

The next Worthy Retreat in Tulum will be on September 2nd-7th, 2021 with special guest Ginger Dean, psychotherapist and founder of Loving Me After We, which is a community that helps women heal after a devastating breakup.
